Violent crime and anti-social behaviour top of the priority list in South Cambridgeshire

Knife crime focused on youths suspected to be carrying weapons in South Cambs

The team has continued its focus on tackling knife crime through a combination of enforcement and education aimed at young people suspected of carrying weapons.

Recent activity has resulted in several positive outcomes, including the recovery of two knives from a man detained and searched in Cambourne, a further knife being seized from another individual who was subsequently cautioned, and the arrest and charge of a man in Milton for possession of a zombie knife.

Proactive work by officers has also helped reduce the number of regular knife crime nominals in the district from five to two, enabling the team to focus resources and safeguarding interventions on those individuals who continue to present the greatest risk.

This ongoing work forms part of a wider approach to preventing knife crime, protecting young people and keeping South Cambridgeshire communities safe.

Youth anti-social behaviour in Orchard Park and surrounding area

 Officers have been carrying out targeted activity to tackle youth anti-social behaviour in Orchard Park and surrounding areas, delivering a number of positive results.

This work has led to the seizure of 60 bikes and 43 e-scooters, helping to address concerns around nuisance riding and anti-social use of vehicles. Officers also recovered two stolen mopeds and a stolen Sur-Ron bike in Willingham, returning stolen property and disrupting criminal activity.

Enforcement action has also seen two suspected drug dealers arrested and prolific offenders arrested for theft offences, helping to reduce the impact of persistent offending on local communities.

The operation demonstrates the team's ongoing commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour, preventing crime and responding to concerns raised by residents across the area.

Elsewhere across the district

Across South Cambridgeshire, officers have continued to proactively tackle serious and organised crime, acquisitive crime and road safety matters, resulting in a number of significant outcomes.

A drugs warrant led to the arrest of two people and the seizure of approximately 1.3kg of cocaine, 7.5kg of cannabis and more than £6,000 in cash, which was seized as suspected criminal property. One offender was remanded in custody, while the second remains on bail.

Officers also targeted organised crime, arresting two organised crime group members for theft offences. After appearing before court, both individuals were remanded and subsequently bailed, but have since been arrested again in Essex.

Work to tackle vehicle crime saw officers recover stolen vehicles in Cambourne and Northstowe, as well as a stolen motorbike in Milton. Two bikes stolen from Comberton were also recovered and offenders dealt with. In Willingham, officers recovered a hire car linked to suspected drug dealing activity.

Road safety enforcement has remained a priority, with a drug driver arrested in Cambourne, a persistent disqualified driver arrested and dealt with, and an unlicensed and uninsured driver reported in Caxton.

Officers have also worked alongside partner agencies, including supporting an electricity company warrant, helping to safeguard communities and disrupt criminal activity across the district.
